Saudi envoy to see Wichean Thursday

New national police chief Wichean Potephosree said Saudi charge d'affaires Nabil Ashri may raise questions about Pol Lt-Gen Somkid Boonthanom when he calls on him on Thursday and he would be glad to answer.

Pol Gen Wichean said the Saudi envoy, with whom he has been in contact for the past two to three years, wants to congratulate him on being made police chief.

However, during the visit, Mr Ashri may well ask him about the appointment of Provincial Police Region 5 commander Pol Lt-Gen Somkid Boonthanom as assistant national police chief, he said.

So the police is going to explain to the representatives of the victim that there's no more problem because the indicted policeman has been pardonned by the police? Somehow 'I have pardonned myself, so there's no more offence"!

Will it explain too what pardoned means in Thai. In any other language it means that one was guilty but does not have to take the punishment for the offence commmitted.

So Thailand Government keeps digging their hole deeper and deeper. Given the Thai propensity to corruption the Saudis have likely paid for all the information on these scandals and know exactly what is going on. Possibly Thailand is being given enough rope to hang itself?

Could the Minister not have the letter translated into Arabic which would be a diplomatic nicety?
