Puea Thai welcomes red-shirt leaders

Key members of the Puea Thai Party have agreed to welcome leaders of the red-shirt United front for Democracy against Dictatorship who want to run for MP seats in the upcoming election, spokesman of the opposition camp Jirayu Huangsap said on Saturday.

Mr Jirayu said his party welcomes anyone who is interested in politics. He gave an example that Puea Thai had fielded UDD co-leader Korkaew Pikulthong to contest the by-elction in Bangkok constituency 6 last year, when a Democrat candidate won at the polls.

“More importantly, the red-shirt leaders are capable persons. They have courage to stand side by side with the people, which is a key qualification of an MP,” he said.

papa - "they have more capable people in their ranks, but maybe they don't." You have to remember that over 100 PTP top members were disqualified from poliyics for 5 years. If Abhisit doesn't hurry with an election call their disqualification term will be up. Adding the UDD leaders into the dynamic is probably something the Democrats and their backers had not counted upon.

This will make the upcoming election more interesting. If you want to hide from the judicial system, just join the Puea Thai party and run for election.
You would think they have more capable people in their ranks, but maybe they don't.

D 5 - Bravo ! Indeed, the most elegant ( and democratic ) expression will always remain the one whereby all gentlemen ( and gentlewomen ) express their desires at the polls.

I think their decision to stand for election is true democracy in action. I wish them all the best in helping Thailand's system of democracy truly reflect the will of the majority.

I will respect the PT if they stop mentioning about Thaksin during their campaign, and if they start putting "Helping the Poor" as their number 1 campaign priority, instead of it being a slogan for the UDD rallies.

Hi, street protests and violence is not democracy -- let them enter the elections, and the people decide !!

D 1 - I agree. I think it will be very difficult to separate themselves from the rallies, as it will be increasingly difficult for Puea Thai to separate their objectives from the UDD. They are all tied it seems by the same umbilical cord that stretches all the way to Montenegro.

They will make Parliament a very raucous place if they get elected - Chalerm, Natthawut, Jatuporn, etc.

Do I think that they will confine their "struggle" (to bring Thaksin back) to Parliament and leave the streets alone? ... No.
