During the Vietnam war the US dropped more bombs on Laos than all the bombs dropped in all wars during the 20th century (and probably beyond.

The reason? Simple. Laso, NON-COMMUNIST country wanted remain neutral during the war, and that was unacceptable to the US. Through bombing it tried to strengthen the communist movement enough to create a threat against the neutral government and hoped thereby to force Laos to back the US in SE Asia.

Of course it backfired. Millions saw what destruction the US was causing and far more joined the revolutionaries than the US ever expected.

Besides that, the four previous comments all hold water. What is the difference between a one-party system and a two party system where both parties are pro-business, greed-oriented and corrupt beyond repair?

Ok if Laos decides it's own destiny, as long as it doesn't condemn others on Mae Nam Mekong to suffering, or the extinction of other species.
Communism is the correct diagnosis, but the wrong medicine.

Communism is the end result that people accept out of desperation when capitalism fails to regulate itself and puts all the money and power in the hands of a few.

From Egypt to Lao, it is the youth who hold true promise for a better world. They are serious about reform because they are inheriting this mess we've all made.Best of luck to them!
