Chalerm: Priewpan for police chief

Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yubamrung told parliament on Thursday that he will propose Pol Gen Priewpan Damapong, a deputy police chief, to replace Pol Gen Wichean Potephosree as national police chief.

This would be done as soon as possible because a delay would obstruct changes to other police positions, he said.

Mr Chalerm said he chose Pol Gen Priewpan for the post because he was the most senior officer capable of crime suppression.

A few years ago Priewpan was upset that he was overlooked for the top job and he may be qualified on paper, but the government should at least pretend on occasion that this whole thing is not a Thaksin love fest. Making your brother-in-law the top cop when you are a convicted criminal.... That is some serious chutzpah!

Obvious and shameless. There are so many well qualified policemen; and all Thai people should have a peace of mind that this selection process has been done democratically and professionally. Obviously it is not so. For the sake of the country's unity, please Khun Chalerm can you help serve your country better. Don't be so shameless and blunt and assume that you and your party are the sole owner of the country. A gentle reminder, you and your party are the servants to the country and the people, not the other way around.

No surprises here, with his brother-in-law as head of the police there is no way the arrest warrant will be actioned. and the separation of politics from government administration now completely and obviously severed.
