EC copyright to be 70 years

As Mick Jagger and Bob Dylan prove they can rock the crowds well into their golden years, the European Union is offering veteran musicians a cash windfall by extending copyright from 50 to 70 years.

The measure seeks to ensure aging performers, who more often than not get their first break young, can survive once they've hung up their guitars in a last goodbye to the stage.

While the move may be of little interest to millionaire performers Jagger, 68, or Dylan, 70, it could be a boon to lesser-known artists, facing a loss of copyright after 50 years.

Hey Franklin, as with most stories in BP, they are filler articles to keep the focus off all the other really important stories such as following up on the police involvement in casinos, the Mercedes bus stop lunatic, the hi-so Honda tollway killer, the yet again hi-so Porsche manic and the Santika New Year deaths....the list just goes on and on an on.

This is a rather odd piece to read in a Thai newspaper. Thailand has a reputation as a country that has no respect for copy-written materials or patents. From fake diplomas, ID’s and passports to copies of DVD’s, CD’s, books, bags and more, there is precious little Thailand won’t infringe upon in its quest for the almighty Baht. R & D in most countries stands for research and development. In Thailand it means rip-off and duplicate. Gonna have to look elsewhere for any compliance to an extended law already ignored.
