UDD coup rally in progress

A large number of red-shirt supporters of the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) have occupied the Ratchadamnern avenue in a rally at the Democracy Monoment to mark the fifth anniversary of the Sept 19, 2006 coup.

Police have blocked the Ratchadamnern avenue to vehicular traffic.

UDD core leaders have begun to take turn going up the stage to speak to the crowd.

Do they want to do it every anniversary for what purpose? They got most of their people in the government. This is going to hurt the country more than ever. The world is tired of Thailand . Now there are many other problems that need to be solved. Why don't send these people to help out at the flooded towns Do somethigs more productive for change.May be they love to flirt with another coup.this nation is going tobe worst than some poor countris in Africa, Central America. and other part of the world. The UDD leaders holding positions in the office should not be on stage at this time. It does not help with reconciliation.

The only Thai person to really suffer from coup in 2006 has initials TS. Otherwise life went on for everybody same-same.

No big anti-coup rally in 2006, because nobody to pay the protesters.

@ bula:Discussion 7 :Coup is a serious crime. The coup makers, supporters, and financiers even write law to pardon themselves.

Yes, I agree coup was not right, but now redshirts pardon themselves from 2 months of murder, mayhem, arson and bomb attacks. Then pardon for boss's corruption. 92 people die because they cannot wait for election.

I wonder why UDD leaders have to suddenly go to Cambodia to have in person audience with the boss. Perhaps to come back to rally with suitcases of presents for rally people.

'UDD core leaders have begun to take turn going up the stage to speak to the crowd.'

You mean lie to the crowd ? Like last year when they said they would protect them and then ran away ?

What this really seems to say is the although we now purportedly have an elected executive with a clear mandate from “The People”, with a safe (coalition) majority in the house and the Rules of Law on their side, anyone who has any issue that they want to publicize can take to the streets, in vast numbers, and infringe the everyday rights of the general public.

Yes, we get the point: you can close this city down whenever you want to. The question is: why do you still want to? And what if some other group takes a leaf out of your playbook (as they will)? That’ll be interesting.

tot they are supposed to promote peace and harmony? Hun Sen, wasn't him a khmer rouge until they kick him out?

"Worawut Wichaidit, the UDD spokesman, said UDD core members such as Jatuporn Prompan, Nathawut Saikua, Korkaew Pikulthong, Weng Tojirakarn, and UDD chair Thida Thavornseth were scheduled to returned to Suvarnabhumi airport from Cambodia "

What were they doing in Cambodia, meeting with Thaksin? Isn't that 'sort-of' breaking the law? Aren't they still on probation?
