Australia hailed the death of US-born cleric Anwar al-Awlaqi in an air raid in Yemen as a significant development in the fight against terrorism.
A picture released by SITE Intelligence Group in 2010, shows a grab from new video lecture from US-Yemeni Al-Qaeda supporter Anwar al-Awlaqi. Radical US-born cleric has been killed, along with several other suspected Al-Qaeda operatives, according to the Yemeni defence ministry.
Foreign Minister Kevin Rudd on Saturday said Awlaqi was known as the spiritual leader of Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula and was responsible for radicalising extremists worldwide, mainly through his lectures over the Internet.
