Thailand to stay in World Heritage committee

Thailand will remain a member of the World Heritage Committee and will ask it to wait for a ruling from the International Court of Justice before considering Cambodia's plan to manage the World Heritage-listed Preah Vihear temple.

Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul announced the decision after attending a meeting of the government's committee on the World Heritage Convention on Thursday.

Others at the meeting included Deputy Prime Minister Kowit Wattana, Natural Resources and Environment Minister Preecha Rengsomboonsuk and Culture Minister  Sukumol Khunploem.

D1 geoffo... you are wrong, TS got nothing to do with it. Siamese the blame. Hun Sen didn't want this trouble too but the PAD started all of these messes. so what Hun Sen did was to ask the court to help clear all these messes. and looking for way to enforce the court decision that's all he did. to prevent any further bloodshed.

I hope no body will walk out to protest with the court decision. I would hope the PT political maturity will never be like with the Democrat. either side need to suck it up and take it and abide by it. this is the ICJ not the children play ground.

I agreed with D2 anoldman. but on the decision to ask to wait for the interpretation for how long? because it have been waiting for 50 years for the thai to abide by the court ruling, it seems like they never did. so the next ruling the outcome would be the same, because Siamese government didn't do nothing when time being given by the court 10 years for Siamese to submit the proven documents if disagree with the court decision at that time. for me just get over with and then start to rebuild the relationship between the two countries if there were any misunderstandings.

Wise decision! Let the international courts decide, and abide by the court decision.

And when Preah Vihear and the surrounding land is awarded to Cambodia, then Thailand will cry and walk out again.

This is one Peau Thai decision which I agree with completely.

The decision to quit was made by a Yellow Shirt and they do not have rational views on any matter related to the Prihear Vihar temple..

as the ruling will most likely be the same as last time meaning Thailand gives up some land I wonder what TS got in return from Hun Sen. What is the odds on it being the exclusive rights for Dubai Oil Inc to explore for oil and gas in a certain spot.
