Floods hurt riverside restaurants

More than 200 restaurants along the banks of the Chao Phraya River have few if any customers and incomes have dropped by up to 90 per cent because of the floods, Thai Restaurants Association chairwoman Thaniwan Kulmongkol said on Friday.

“People are concerned about the floods that could inundate Bangkok and have no wish to eat out at this time,” she said.

Close to 300 lives have been lost. I am not sure if hundreds of thousands of people in affected areas are getting three basic meals a day, not to think of hygienic or not. And here we are. Preparing statistics about people not dining out.

They could pack some food and send it to their less fortunate brethren and sisters.

I am really sorry about the affected 6,000 employees and I mean every single word of it when I say that. But, at present, majority of my sympathies is elsewhere.

People are worried about flood in their home. Which sane person is still thinking of dining out, especially by the river, where lots of crocodials have escaped.

With common sense those restaurants owners should have temporary closed it up till fine day returned and reopen it.Whom in is right mind would want to venture out to eat right now when the flood water is at their front door.
