Japanese firms demand information

The Japan External Trade Organisation (Jetro) has demanded reliable information about the floods from the Thai government, so that investors based in industrial estates can work out the right plans to cope with the crisis.

Setsuo Iuchi, the president of Jetro Thailand, said Friday that Japanese businessmen wanted reliable information on the flooding.

He stressed Jetro's demand that the Thai government protect industrial zones, the factories' machinery and the lives of the people there from flooding.

How many more years it will take for the thai government officials to stop their corruption culture and take a responsible attitude on their job to serve the society whole-heartedly. A long term solution is really required to tackle this yearly occurring flood diaster.

@Bern1005 #6: the current government was already in charge when the flooding started about 2 month ago. A couple of days ago they asked private people to donate sandbags because obviously they were not prepared. Do you want to blame the last government for this? The current government woke up way too late and realized that there is really a flooding problem. This is entirely the fault of the current government. Remember how they spent their first months in power..

The damage and loss of life from this year's (admittedly exceptional) flooding, can only be blamed on the state of preparations and planning done by the previous governments and officials who are supposedly under government control. Let us all home that PT takes this as a wake up call to make protecting the people a true priority.

"Japanese businessmen wanted reliable information on the flooding".

Im sure Thailand can do much better at giving information than the Japanese Goverment did about their Nuclear problem. Each day their story changed.

@loopholes #1: Why are you so sure that the PT and the DEMs would react in the same way? I don’t say the DEMs would have done everything right – likely not. But maybe they would have done more right because they would not have spent all their energy in the first months after the election to get a criminal fugitive pardoned.

I still wonder about the Thai people and surveys about corruption being OK. It can and will never be studied but how much of this broken infrastructure is because of the money being creamed off the top. If you walk into a newly built house in Thailand I bet you cannot find a 90 degree angle anywhere. Houses are small so I do wonder what the tolerances are for a water gate. 10 to 20%. Does anyone actually care about the quality of the water gate and take pride in that gate that they build or is it just the money at the end.

Be it PTP or DEM holding ruling power, the result of this major disaster would be similar,
a vote of NO confidence in national and public administration ! It is time to stop the guessing
game about flood waters folks !! Be realistic and practical are the answers to the flood crisis !!!
