Rome clashes mar global day of protests

Protesters torched cars, smashed up banks and set fire to a military building in Rome on Saturday in the worst violence of worldwide demonstrations against corporate greed and government cutbacks.

Anti-riot policemen walk by a Police van in fire during a demonstration in Rome. Tens of thousands marched in Rome today as part of a global day of protests inspired by the "Occupy Wall Street" and "Indignant" movements, with the Italian capital under a security lockdown.

Tens of thousands took to the streets of the Italian capital for a march that turned violent and equal numbers rallied in Madrid and Lisbon while Wikileaks founder Julian Assange joined angry demonstrators in London.

SHOP D2: Yes things must change; globally.

McGEE D3: Define "freedom". There are degrees of oppression but freedom as such is difficult to define. One person says freedom is to read what you want, another freedom is health care so you need not live in fear of falling ill. The major freedom we have in the US is a freedom of speech. Nobody would get jailed for fifteen years for speaking their mind.

KOOL D4: Yes right, this is a global problem, not a US problem. Capitalism is no longer free but a very effectively controlled process directed from above and with a game they have rigged in advance.

Police and too often military are in fact hired force by the wealthy to protect them from the poor. Their own crimes they bamboozle people into believing are not crimes but just somehow justifiable. A businessman can steal millions and walk free or if caught, get a slap on the hands. A poor guy steals a bicycle in New York and can shot down in the street.

"We need to stop the greedy wealthy elite from stealing from the poor working class". I guess this isn't a problem in Thailand....hahahahahahahaha.

Wait, I thought America was a free country. Not allowed to protest. Thais have more freedom than America.

The Americans stirred and supported rebellion in Egypt, Iraq, Iran, Syria, Libya etc. The common man in America realizes that together they can discipline a governement and politics that is fed and finally controlled by the business houses. This is a tough time for the U.S. for the first time, we will see mass demonstrations and police and people skirmishes. The extent that America thought that would happen only abroad - welcome change, hear the voice of the people, either change or go - the Americans can now use the slogans that Obama used as he bullied and pushed his way across the world.
