If worst case scenario [updated]

According to Dr Seri Suprathit, a water expert who tours affected flood areas every day, if the worst case scenario happens he advised people in low-lying areas which will see flood level at chest deep to evacuate.

In a live TPBS telecast, Dr Seri projected that if all the government's flood defence walls including those protecting inner Bangkok were breached, Bangkok will surely be innundated as high as chest deep in some areas.

I have perfect eye sight and I can't see whats going on on the map. Please BP, for the 100th time put maps labeled in English please. If we wanted to read Thai, we wouldn't have been here. Thank you.

I think the entire world can witness the lack of skill of Thai water management experts, PhD or not. Quite an international embarassment and I would be ashamed if I were a water management official of the mess that has been created purely by poor water management decisions. The flood has been compounded 10 times worse by poor decisions concerning water release and in-fighting concerning opening and closing flood gates. Shows the true selfish power struggle that is Thailand.

I consider myself a water expert too, if you place a glass of water next to a glass of milk, 2 out of 3 times I can recognise the glass of water. Now can I go write in the BP with my useless information and then go show all my friends that I have been published as an expert.

D1 Nui - the biggest issue is a lack of public information from the government. Having lived in Florida while in college, I enjoyed a couple of hurricane visits. But there was a huge difference, because 1) Florida governments had a plan in place BEFORE the hurricane season even started and 2) because they kept the public updated and ordered evacuations from potentially impact areas BEFORE it was too late. (Katrina in New Orleans was handled Thai style, no plan, no worry).

At this point in time people need to know the potential for flooding in their area, so that they have time to prepare. If the government is scared to tell them, then there is no other choice than to publish information from other (potentially more reliable) sources.

D4 Upena - the "expert" suggested evacuating from areas that "will" see chest deep water, he didn't wait to evacuate until after there was chest deep water.

Thank you Bangkok Post. Perhaps you could make the map smaller then that. Compared to the Nation, where maps are interactive, I have seen little by the Post, using the available IT foresight.

    Green, universally, means SAFETY.

Yet another armchair expert whose favourite movie is The Day After Tomorrow crawls out of the woodwork.

Don't they themselves, the government - and the Bangkok Post - realize this is doing more harm than good?

Just next to this '2012 scenario' is an update that Chaeng Wattana Road is now dry... Nonthaburi Pier area is dry as well now. So is most of the inner city actually. Please stop printing this rubbish. You have a duty towards the community as well.

who writes this garbage? You cite a "water expert" that recommends evacuating if flood waters are chest deep. Absolutely brilliant!

Doctor, doctor, doctor, please I am going fast....

This is one of the many problems with Thai leaders, too many doctors and not enough patients. Most of Thai leaders have higher degrees, many with doctor degrees, but they lack practical experience. Only theories, which were western theories and cannot be applied in Thailand. Those that can be applied, they do not know how. They came back with overseas diplomas in hands and frames, but that was it. They practice status quo. Me and my family first, and got to have my class and status.

Any depth of flood water carries the risk of disease from flooded sewers, etc.
