Don Mueang airport closed

Airports of Thailand Co (AoT) has declared the closure of Don Mueang airport from 7pm today as northern runoff has flowed on to the runways and affected the lighting.

The closure is for the sake  of safety of passengers and aircraft, it said.

Earlier today low-cost airline Nok Air, which operates flights to provinces from Don Mueang airport, announced the suspension of its air services from noon today.

Effected the lighting? It works fine in tropical downpours and is fully water proof....isn't it? But the kicker is the lazy attitude of NOK air stopping all flights until the 1 st November, rather than moving ops to Swampy. Well the government should be on the phone to them or Thai the mother ship to put themselves back in the air. Extra flts from Phitsanulok now becomes how many?

The FROC also plan to move those people using Donmuang Airport as a temporary shelter; and I suggest the elevated stations along the Airport Link route be used for this purpose.

So there goes another high profile "guaranteed safe" location.

Although Don Muang was declared safe, we al knew it wasn't when the army moved its planes last week.
