Yutthasak: Thai-US relation 'fine'

Defence Minister Gen Yutthasak Sasiprapa disputed the news that US was dissatisfied that Thailand did not accept the US military help.

It's true that the US military was confused about the Thai government's attitude about help and thus withdrew the aircraft carrier but the US military still left one ship and two helicopters for us if we need help.

Gen Yuttasak said that the government did not need help for helicopters to locate those disappeared by the flood. What Thailand needs right now is sandbags, dried food or even donated money.

I think the US can do without the majority of it's parasitical encumbrances.

Many countries have been actively but quietly providing aid to Thailand the last few weeks. Why is it that this US offer to help Thailand suddenly becomes politicized?

There was absolutely no confusion about what Thailand needed. There would not have been a Navy Carrier group sent here after the Marines assessed the situation with the Thai military if there was not a need. The USA does not foolishly waste that kind of money, and they are experts at this kind of disaster relief. What was the PM afraid they would find out?

Anyone that thinks the 2 helicoptors, and personel that are still here are for anything besides evacuating the US Embassy if need be is also foolish.

How many more people are going to die because of the PM's decision not to let the US Navy experts help? She is the one in total power of this crisis, and the one ultimately responsible for not allowing the USA to help. There will be no more money from the USA, and how was the money already given spent?

quote "The US just donated 15 million baht to Thailand" .. how generous. Meanwhile Bangladesh, one of the poorest countries in the world is giving 1 Million USD, around 30 million Baht, exactly double what the 'greatest and most powerful nation in the world' manages to give; without strings attached.

Excuse me for being underwhelmed. Plenty of individual americans and europeans have 'donated' at least 15 million Baht EACH to their familes in Thailand over the years, myself included.

"and even donated money". That would be the last thing any sane person would donate with the Thai governments past record.

Whoever caused the lack of commmucation, we can leave to another day. The other 3 points "What Thailand needs right now is" -
    1. Sandbags - How many planes are going to be needed to deliver 1 million sandbags by end of today? The river is probably going to break it's banks tomorrow, so even too late to use the sandbags. How long to make flood walls with these sandbags?
    2. Dried food - Thailand is one of the largest producers of food for export. A lot of this is in the dry form or canned. There is probably enough in wharehouses in the country to keep everyone going for 6 months.
    3. Or even donate money. Well this is not going to find it's way to the suffering!

The US just donated 15 million baht to Thailand, for "water, pumps, generators, water purification units, boats, motors, and life vests", and another 3 million to the Thai Red Cross Society. This is in addition to the US and USAID disaster response specialists working directly with the Thai government.
