Sukampol: No need to cut up roads

It is not necessary to cut channels across any roads to improve the drainage of floodwater out to sea because none of the targeted roads block the flow of water, Transport Minister Sukampol Suwannathat said on Friday.

ACM Sukampol said this after flying by helcopter to examine from the air the area east of Bangkok, Bang Na - Trat highway and Khlong Bang Chalong, Khlong Chorakheyai, Khlong Sanamphli and Khlong Phra-rongchao.

He was accompanied by representatives of the Highway and Royal Irrigation departments.

About 3 hours ago they tried to cut through the road at Rangsit Klong 9 and it failed miserably. Someone should have realized that the Klong is at a lower level than the road and water does not flow uphill. Did not drain anything, just made a muddy mess of everything. Complete disaster as they thought the water would come rushing out and drain to the south in Lam Lukka. It did nothing but rile up 200 villagers who were screaming mad the govt did not ask their permission before doing this

I am pleased that some people have made a sensible decision on this. If they had cut through roads, the worst would have been the Suwintawong Road. This carries a large volume of traffic. Transport to & from food/water producers, would make the supply to Bangkok a lot more difficult. I live in the area of these roads, and if it had to be done and created a problem for us locals, well we would have had to take the medicine to help the rest. BTW, when it was suggested that these roads were blocking the flood flow, I knew that this was not the case. There are many klongs that run under all these roads & the water is hardly moving.

Yes, but in reality Steve Jobs could not control everything from dream to design to delivery. He had to make decisions, and so does this PM. But, yes, her position is unenviable.

This is not a similar situation but I can imagine that this is the reason why Steve Jobs wanted to control everything in his environment, from dream and design to the delivery to the customer.
I would not like to trade places with the PM in this situation where she’s getting all kind of official contradicting solutions to facilitate the path that the water must follow on its way to the sea.
