Repairing sluicegate 'won't help"

The Bangkok Metropolitian Administration's plan to repair the damaged Khlong Sam Wa sluicegate will not help the flood situation, Pheu Thai Party senior member Wicharn Meenchainant said on Wednesday.

Pheu Thai Party senior member Wicharn Meenchainant Bangkok Governor Sukhumbhand Paribatra yesterday ordered city workers backed by police to repair the sluicegate."The water level on both sides of the gate is already equal and floodwater will continue to flow over even if the gate is repaired," Mr Wicharn said. The BMA must consider opening the sluicegate in Bang Chan quickly to allow floodwater to flow more rapidly  out to the sea. YS should reel in her PTP members, there are too many of them speaking out in public of what should be done. They should not be making any statements in public as it will confuse the public of what the right actions are, and cause confusion.

This is the problem with the government. There are too many people with opinions and speaking out. There should be only 1-2 people speaking to the public based on PM Yinglick's delegation. They should check their facts and then inform the public. Firing from the hip gives us "flip-flop" messages.

So maybe every district should form a mob and when ever we dont like something we will just send our mob to fight for us .This is the direction we are headed in in more ways than just the flood .

If the gate is too narrow at Bang Chan and will cause a bottle neck in water flow, maybe something similar to what the residents at Khlong Sam Wa did with their gate could be looked into. Experts in water flow management would need to determine proper size to insure not too much or too little flow would be created. May be quicker than looking for more pumps or modifying the gate. Earth moving equipment could remain in place to make any needed adjustments in flow. Seems to me this should possibly be more urgent than Khlong Sam Wa.
