Dems: PM not wielding control

Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has shown she is not in control of the flood situation, and the problem at Khlong Sam Wa is an obvious example of her failing, Democrat Party spokesman Chavanont Intarakomalyasut said on Wednesday.

The spokesman said he did not know what logic Ms Yingluck had used in ordering the  floodgate to be opened to one metre wide.

What was worse, after the  gate was lifted higher the volume of water in Khlong Sam Wa had not dropped at all because northern runoff was still pouring in, Mr Chavanont said.

Yes, in the democratic society, the role of the opposition is to criticize. But in Thailand, the Democrat Party have always criticized, but offer no solutions of their own claiming secret and so forth. I am a demo and I know my Thai Demo Party. Ordinary citizen like us offer ideas and solutions, but our leaders always ignore. I love my Thai leaders!

In a democratic society, the role of the opposition is to criticize and point out what they think should be/have-been done better. This serves all the people by ensuring that the government is scrutinized in its actions.
Complaining that they are doing just that is rather strange: we need them to do that, the press alone cannot keep a government in check.
What they should definitely not do is to setup a "shadow" FROC like fungus suggested, in cases of emergencies the public should not be subjected to conflicting guidance.

Maybe the Dems should set up a "shadow" FROC. At least then people will better understand their intentions. As it is now they report one set of facts to the PM then go on the news shows and report their own, completely different "expert" opinions. Really shameful performance from the Dems in this national crisis. They are doing nothing to enhance post flood reconciliation. All of the gestures of accomodation and reconciliation are coming from the PM.

the Prime Minister she already stated that when she took office all the dams are full, so all the mess that left from the Democrat themselves and now they blame YingLuck for their mistake. any way no body can manage this kind of massive volume of water, and plus thailand is not that much above sea level that's why the water flow toward sea incredibly slow moving. all the Democrat people need to stop being yapped and yapped need some action and idea to help solve a long due process of flooding. and should stop looking for way to verbally attack and attack the poor lady credibility. it is a shame on you all. that's why the Dem party never rise to power by election. what is a good coup? can anyone explain to me please. may be there is another dictionary out there just for them.

During a crisis there will always be political finger pointing. Last I remember when the Dems where dealing with flooding issues up north, it was the Pheu Thai Party doing the finger pointing. Appearently that didn't stop anyone from voting for her, now did it?
This is the nature of politics. It goes both ways.

Don't believe everything you read. Remember all politicians have agendas of their own and don't always have the nations interest in mind. Remember this one?

"The woman set to become Thailand's first female prime minister, Yingluck Shinawatra, said Monday that authorities will reopen an investigation into her brother, former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, who was convicted of corruption after being forced from office" - Now can you tell me how did this help the nation? That was a personal. Period.

    Politics are politics.

Lots of angry and SHOUTING posts at the DEMs which I find a little confusing: although I totally agree that now may not be the best time to score political points, correct me if I am wrong but the overall responsability for the flood management resides with the government, not the dems?

Also, this may come as a shock to some and on the surface it may even seem unfair, but those in charge are right to protect some areas and accept to sacrifice others. These are the difficult decisions that a leader has to make: protect the water and energy supply, protect the rest of the infrastructure, protect the areas which are the most expensive to rebuild, industry, city centers, etc. Doing otherwise would be negligent. Plan for the worst and hope for the best.

I don't care if the DEM is playing politic or not. The DEM is politically bankrupt when they supported coup and allowed the non-constitutional interference in politic. PM YS made the decisions for national interest not the interest of the DEM.

PM YS exercises non-confrontational leadership style. That does not mean she is soft and indecisive. She leads, and I am sure that there will be post mortem but not fingers pointing fact finding sessions. More than a month ago, I was one of those who suggested SOE and that was made without knowing that there were 2007 laws on flood crisis handling. The Army Chief has yesterday changed his stance on SOE and cautious PM of using it.

It is a mission to let the water flow out of all the provinces deeply under the water, ASAP, not just to protect a small area (Bangkok, which will end up being flooded anyway by the most serious flood ever) by prolonging the suffering of a much larger area (that contribute a lot more in terms of both agricultural and industrial contributions to the country). If the DEMs can learn to understand this very simple logic, then they could answer the question, what people's request PM Yingluck should respond to, those millions of people suffering, or a few DEMs that have been adding troubles and obstacles to the uphill mission fighting the flood on a national level, and adding more ordeals to millions of families, and prolonging their suffering 2 meters (even higher) under the water in the provinces?!!!

I believe people in the provinces will never vote for the DEMs again!

I hate it when in times of crisis, the opposition chosed to criticize and condemn Yingluck instead of helping her. I am a foreigner and I don't take sides but when I saw BMA only chosed to protect Bangkok and refused to acknowledge the sufferings of the others in the country, to me, thats damn selfish. If opening Khlong Sam Wa did not helped, as alleged, then not opening it will be worst for those in Pathumtani and Ayutthaya as the residents here had been inundated with 1 to 2.5 m of water. So releasing the water and flooding Bangkok a little is the correct and equitable decision. Kudos Yingluck.
