RID has plan for Thon Buri flood

In a live TV telecast, Royal Irrigation Department (RID) chief Chalit Damrongtham said that if left unmanaged the Thon Buri side of Bangkok would be under water for at least one month, but offered some hope for improvement.

This was the main reason why the irrigation department asked for and received approval from the flood centre  to manage the west side of Bangkok.

The first step is to control the release of water from the North so that the rate of water replenishment will be less than the outflow.

bop @D1 says: "This whole mess was the result of the RID not releasing dam water early enough."

That is a self-evident fact, so I couldn't agree with you more.

And, who's the ultimate boss of the RID? The PM.

Who's the PM? Yingluck. Thus the responsibility is owned by one person and one person only: Yingluck the PM.

Thank you Ronald I have been saying that for a while. Bangkok isn't the economic heart , it is just the cash register. 14,000 factories down but it so happens their books are in Bangkok, not difficult to figure out.

Totally feel for those other side if the river. It appears the Authorities have LET the water flow through this part to try to drain the water just North of Bangkok to take it away from the City. While agreeing with some posts that Central Bangkok needed to be protected, it is not at all costs. Keep seeing this 41% of GDP is from Bangkok. Maybe, but not majority from City Centre. What is produced in City Centre for GDP, compared with the 7 Industrial Estates flooded already & now 2 more (in Bangkok) that are under threat. What makes most of GDP in Thailand; Rice, Cement, Rubber, Cars & componants, Electrical goods, Fruit & canned fish & Chicken & pork. None made in City Centre. Other big industry is tourism, yes a small proportion of 5% GDP from Bangkok. Thailand is not a major financial centre, like London, so where does the 41% come from?

Sounds like a plan that might succeed so it will be ignored, especially by the varios leaders and agencies who know nothing about flooding!

Once again those who have suffered the most are going to be forced to suffer more. The Government of Thailand, The Government of BMA and RID have totally failed the citizens of Thailand and it is unconscionable. I hope they all suffer months and months of sleepless nights for what they have and are doing.
