Khlong Hok Wa barrier torn down

About 300 residents in Pathum Thani tore down a stretch of a sandbag flood barrier at the lower line of Khlong Hok Wa, causing more floodwater to surge into Bangkok's Sai Mai district, on Thursday afternoon.

Ratchapol Boonrod, deputy district chief of Sai Mai, said residents from tambon Lat Sawai of Pathum's Lam Luk Ka district removed sandbags from the flood barrier. The level of floodwater then rose from the previous 20cm to between 30cm and 40cm.

Khlong Hok Wa flood barrier is one of the two major barriers that floodwater in Pathum Thani from surging into the northern part of Bangkok. The other barrier is in tambon Lak Hok of Pathum Thani, which connects to Bangkok's Don Muang district.

Disc,1. The politicians would all speak at the same time, & all the hot air would lift the tornado, so it passed above the City.

The Authorities and experts say Inner Bangkok is safe, so allow these barriers to be reduced (should have been done progressively already). If my house starts to get threatened by rising water because of this, I will put the sandbags back up again. About 30cm is all it would be now, as it would be spreading out. I can live with that. The people under 1 metre+, should not have to. BTW, I was in BKK in 1995 and saw Sukhumvit/Asoke junction under more than 50cm of flood, thru local rain and back up from the drainage. It soon went away, & City continued to function.

People in this situation had little choice but to tear down the Barriers. They simply cannot take the risk of allowing stagnant water to lay around which could result in an outbreak of Cholera or Typhoid which could completely destroy their Community.

Good move from those residents, hope residents from other areas will follow. Although I live in Bangkok, I don't accept that people from other areas must suffer to protect Bangkok. What would happen if there was a tornado on Bangkok..would the Government members blow on the winds to push them outside Bangkok??..
