B350bn fund for water management

The cabinet on Tuesday approved in principle a proposal to raise 350 billion baht for a fund for long-term water management infrastructure and to set up a 50-billion-baht insurance fund for use in times severe natural disaster.

Deputy Prime Minister and Commerce Minister Kittirat Na-Ranong said after the meeting that the water management fund will be spent on developing infrastructure that will lead to integrated water solutions. Some infrastructure projects  could start right away.

The 50-billion-baht disaster insurance fund will ensure insurance payouts when the country faces catastrophic natural disasters, because some local insurance firms have no reinsurance with overseas companies.
