Chalerm: Nalinee's appointment legal

Under Thai law, the appointment of Nalinee Taveesin as PM’s Office Minister was constitutional, Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yubamrung said on Friday.

Being blacked list by the US did not disqualify Mrs Nalinee from appointment to cabinet, which is subject only to Thai law and the Thai constitution, he said.

Asked about the appointment of Natthawut Saikua,  Pheu Thai list MP and a co-leader of the red-shirt United front for Democracy against Dictatorship, as agriculture and cooperatives deputy minister, Mr Chalerm said he approved of it.

Thai government isn't the small brother that needs to obey what the US big brother says.

Just can't keep the stink away from Thai politics and the politicians it dredges up.Ms Nalinee readily admits to being a "friend" of one of most ruthless and murderous dictators in Africa, but she hasn't done any "business" for them.I guess it's no different to the Thai politicians/escapees that are "friends" with Hun Sen or gave loans to the murdering Burmese junta, a few years ago.Their all just one big happy family of "friends" in Pheu Thai.
It's no surprise that she can represent Thailand, under Thai law, after all even if you help to start riots or are accused of murder you can't be arrested whilst you are a serving member of Parliament and the Parliament is sitting. There's a few examples sitting there now.

Lack of moral seems to be a must to get any sort of appointment in this government.

Her appointment is legal but what effect will have on Thailand's international image ? Dealing gems etc for brutal dictator Mugabe shows a complete lack of morals. Making money for him props up his regime.

So far for the credibility of Thailand on the international scene!! But for sure Dubai does not care!

Anyone who is blacklisted due to dealing with Mugabe doesnt need to explain .Actions speak loder than words .You will fit right in with this motley bunch.

A more negative image of the fugitive's cabinet is difficult to achieve with terrorist and unqualified family members already in the line-up. Adding a blacklisted cabinet minister only adds to the assembly of misfits.

The appointment is indeed legal, although it portrays the Thai government in a bad spotlight. Just like the PTP thinks having a fugitive run the country from abroad is legal. Everything illegal is legal if its one of their own.

tell, what on earth has 'another coup' go to do with this story. Honestly, it's getting so tiresome.

The fact that the appointment is legal under Thailand's laws isn't the problem.
