Mixed feelings on living standards

A recent survey by the National Institute of Development Administration (Nida) has concluded that while a large section of the population were satisfied with their standard of living and the state of the Thai economy, many were not.

The Nida poll involved 1,274 respondents at all levels of education and from a range of professions, from  Jan 16-18, in all parts of Thailand. It aimed to gauge their opinions on ''Today's Thai Economy''.

The results, released on Friday, showed 46.15 per cent of the people surveyed said they were satisfied with their standard of living, but one in four (25.43 per cent) were not content.

International estimates are the average Thai worker needs to earn about 15,000 a month to earn enough for a decent living. That is hardly the case. Thai workers often live several or moore people in one household because otherwise they would be table to make ends meet. In the countryside it is worse as often entire extended families have to share a house due to the meager income they have, even collectively.

Add to this health care is beyond the reach of most "normal" Thais and I am amazed at the results of this poll which, IMO should indicate far more dissatisfaction.

And the economy is almost completely rigged in favor of the wealthy. The wealthy you are in Thailand (as most other places) the easier it is to get wealthier and extend opportunities to family and friends.

MMMM ok, What levels of education voted what? what percentage of proffesionals, manual workers voted what? This poll is really no good at all. It tells people nothing. Need to get some educated people to conduct the polls.
