UN urged to back Arab plan on Syria

Germany on Monday led European demands for strong UN Security Council support for Arab League calls for Syria's President Bashar al-Assad to hand over power.

Wittig said Germany would be following up a formal letter demanding that Arab League secretary general Nabil al-Arabi brief the 15-member Security Council ``as soon as possible''.

P.S. Syria is just a "pawn" in a MAJOR GLOBAL struggle between the EU, USA, & others and Iran, China and mostly Russia who support Assad. Russia just signed a deal to sell him almost 1/2 billiopn dollars worth of their war-planes.
