Lankan guards fire on prison riot

Prison guards opened fire on rioting inmates at Sri Lanka's main remand prison in Colombo on Tuesday in clashes that left 25 inmates and four guards wounded, officials said.

Inmates began fighting with administrative staff of the Magazine prison forcing guards to open fire, a police official at the scene said.

``A total of 25 inmates were admitted to hospital,'' he said. ``Four prison guards were also injured during the rioting. Police moved in and fired teargas to control inmates.''
