TLSC demands wage hike nationwide

The Thai Labour Solidarity Committee plans mass gatherings of workers throughout the country to pressure the government to immediately raise the daily minimum wage to 300 baht nationwide, TLSC chairman Chalee Loysoong said on Thursday.

Mr Chalee said his committee disagreed with the government’s plan to increase the daily minimum wage to 300 baht on only seven provinces on April 1 this year,  and then raise the daily wage to 300 baht nationwide in 2013.

The government had promised a 300 baht daily wage on Jan 1, 2012, but failed to keep its word, he added.

He said prices of consumer goods have gone up due to the increase in fuel prices and the government has failed to control prices of essential products, while civil servants have been given pay increases.

The daily living cost of each worker was now at about 348 baht. If they have family, their costsof living rises to 561.79 baht per day.

Therefore the government should immediately raise the daily minimum wage to 300 baht for all workers nationwide, said Mr Chalee.

Disc 1 you talk as if governments in Thailand are the only governments in the world then never keep election promises. The poor know talk is cheap and maybe this is why vote buying is so prevalent in many countries. Get what ever you can when you can.
I personal think it is time a bi partisan stance is taken and the Democrats seem to have worked this out already.
The policies being implemented to create more money are needed so the poor have jobs to go to. The manufacturing industry needs reassurance. The poor need the pay rise due to inflation concerns in the western world.
What needs to be understood is that both Pheu Thai and the Democrats would be scrambling for money now.

I hope the rich have realised that stealing money to gain power is actually killing the country and lowering the power of Thailand and themselves as well. everyone is losing.

"prices of consumer goods have gone up due to the increase in fuel prices and the government has failed to control prices of essential products"

Why can't TLSC understand that increasing wages will also increase the price of consumer goods and put people out of work. There are many instances of over employment especially in restaurants and retail. In England 1 person will be working where over here there are 3 or 4 doing the same amount of work (and managing a poorer service). If they have to be paid the minimum wage at least 1 will have to go or the costs must go up to pay for their wages.

Did anybody think about ... employers 'forced' to increase wages ... employers must lay off staff to comply and survive ....

This government is starting to feel the rath of not living up to their campaign promises for those that did the actual voting. The leaders that are already rich have been rewarded, but it will be a long time before the poor are rewarded, if at all.

There should be a disbandment of Parliament, and a new election so the poor can get payed again. That is the only way they are ever going to get any money from this government. Talk is cheap, and the poor don't know this.
