Korn: Govt wants to avoid scrutiny

The government has issued four financial executive decrees instead of enacting new legislation to avoid parliamentary screening, former finance minister Korn Chatikavanij said in a message posted on Facebook.

Korn Chatikavanij

"The constitution stipulates that an executive decree can be issued only when it is urgent, but what's the urgency of borrowing 350 billion baht?

"Even academics in government committees told us that the government is not clear enough about the details,  and the current budget is also available," said the Democrat deputy leader.

There was no reason to rush the transfer of 1.14 trillion baht in debt from the 1997 crisis to the Bank of Thailand. The government should let the parliament examine it first, he said.

"Last night [Thursday], when there was a debate on selling some of the government's shares in PTT, Channel 11 just stopped the live broadcast of the parliamentary meeting.

"You [the government] have the majority vote so it's better to be generous," Mr Korn said.

The four financial executive decrees related to debt transfer and flood management programmes became effective yesterday with their publication in the Royal Gazette.

The clue about PTP's behaviour is in their record when they were TRT. 500ml lawsuits and bans on journalists were common then. The Temasek shenanigans showed how little respect there was for laws.

I share the opinion of D3 Renaissance. this Government with its lust for money , its "unendurable corruption" a la TRT might be the last of its kind and something better will emerge, the sad thing is a lot of innocent people are going to hurt before they are gone.

    And then ?

I sometimes get the feeling that Thaksin and Co. don't expect to be in power for long, so they are making spending money an urgent priority. I wonder if their receipts and bank transfers will be audited independently. I feel that this government will become the international standard of corruption.

The UDD controlled Channel 11 stopped broardcasting when questions from the opposition became too tough for PTP to answer.
Channel 11 should be scrapped as it has no value to the population and only serves as a tax-funded propaganda tool of the government and the red thugs of UDD.
Freedom of speech and information ? Not anymore.

I think expects Thailand to lay down and not ask any questions the way their voters do .
