2 volunteers killed in Yala

Two defence volunteers were killed in an ambush by southern militants while leaving their base to escort monks on an alms-taking round in Muang district of Yala province early Sunday morning.

Police said the incident took place at about 6am at the mouth of Soi Berseng 7 in tambon Sateng.

While the two volunteers - Supat Inthanok, 30, and Ronnachit Praiduang, 26 - were leaving their base near Soi Berseng 7 on a motorcycle a number of armed men waiting on a pick-up truck opened fire at them with AK47 and M16 rifles.

disc 3, ex-pet, you are so right, there are far too many people dying for no good reason. We also send our respects and gratitude to the families. Somebody in the Government, or elsewhere, needs to make a plan, start talks, and begin the long slow process of sorting out this awful mess. It is all so utterly depressing, and wasteful. We read about these senseless murders virtually every day.

Are the local muslim people outraged by these killings as they were a few days ago ?.

    It seems not.

The word 'militants' gives them some respectability. They should be called murderers or terrorists.

Regular readers will remember that terrible photo from 2010 of the single soldier trudging along between two monks on their early morning rounds. In his oversized helmet and with his rifle pointing down he looked like a schoolboy.

The photo showed the pickup truck containing his soon to be murderers only a few meters from him.

Today we read of the same seemingly casual " it wont happen to me" attitude and once again the murderers drive home for lunch with their days work done. No doubt in this afternoon they will plan when to go tomorrow and who to kill.

Meantime the generals in charge play golf.
