Govt whips accept charter bill

The government whips on Monday resolved to forward the draft charter amendment submitted by the Pheu Thai Party to the House of Representatives on Thursday, government chief whip Udomdej Rattanasathian said.

The draft proposes an amendment to Section 291 to establish a 99-member constitution drafting committee (CDA) - 77 elected from all the provinces and 22 others from academia and experts in various fields.

The bill was submitted by the Pheu Thai Party to the government whips for consideration today and won approval from them.

77 elected from all the provinces and 22 others from academia and experts in various fields seems pretty unbalanced to me. Too much scope for persuading the provincial electees to vote in a particular way?

Thaksin approved the idea of a 99-member committee. I find it unlikely that he doesn't have a trick up his sleeve because without his intervention, things could go against him.
