UDD files charter change draft

The United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) on Thursday afternoon filed a charter amendment draft with House Speaker Somsak Kiatsuranont.

The draft, signed by more than 60,000 eligible voters, seeks to amend Section 291 of the constitution to pave the way for the setting up of a constitution drafting assembly (CDA).

Weng Tochirakarn, a UDD core member and Pheu Thai party list MP, said the draft calls for the CDA to have 100 members directly elected by the people, but did not elaborate further.

Thailand has one person one vote, the right to protest and all can participate in the political process.

So what actually is the "democracy" that is missing according to Aunty Thida.

Since the coup there has been a number of elections and only the UDD refused to accept the results, now they want to "restore democracy " as defined by Thida - go figure

How is a charter change going to make any difference to any peoples' lives ? And why the rush ?

I thought an election was a democratic process ? If Thida means get rid of the vote buying by Thaksin I am all for it.

Well all know that the change is to benefit only 1 man. Mr Thaksin.

"We are now in the second phrase. In the first phrase, we won the election. We are now at the stage of throwing away a constitution which came from a coup and writing a new one. The third phrase is for us to make the country democratic," Mrs Thida said.

I thought PT won the election not the red shirts / UDD
