Gala dinner to cost B10m

Tomorrow night's gala dinner at Government House to thank staff of the now-closed Flood Relief Operations Command and others who contributed to the relief efforts during last year's devastating flood will cost about 10 million baht, Prime Minister's Office permanent secretary Thongthong Chandrangsu said.

Mr Thongthong said of the 10 million baht, 6.5 million baht is for light and sound shows and 3.5 million baht for  water, telephone, transportation, food and other costs.

The figures were reasonable, and the money would be put to good use, he said.

This is the ultimate example of what is wrong with Thai politicians. Not only is there zero accountability for any wrongdoing, but failure is rewarded! They should be ashamed of themselves and ‘lose face’ simply by looking in the mirror.
Interior Minister Yongyuth Wichaidit bringing Buddhism into the discussion is a cheap way to try to validate their wrongdoing. Buddhism has nothing to do with a big gala party. Insensitivity and immorality have everything to do with rubbing a party in the faces of the victims.

This is simply a clear sign of mismanagement, corruption and lack of common sense.
Another source tells that 500 guests have been invited, so lets calculate a bit.
6,5 mill for entertainment equals 13000 per guest.
3,5 mill for f/b and transport equals 7000 per guest.

It does not take a doctor degree to see that something is completely wrong.
Knowing a bit about cost of large functions I can say this is WAY OVER THE HILL !!!

Bangkok Post- PLEASE investigate in this case and check the costs with event organizers and you will find that something is VERY rotten here, and your readers will praise you for being an informative, relevant and serious news provider.

On top of that, poor people are struggling to get their 5000 Baht flood relief as compensation for a flooded home caused by most of the incompetent party goers celebrating themselves.
Having such a a party tells that these crooks have absolutely no common sense and do not care at all about the Thai people as long as they can have their showoff.
Who to vote for next time ????

20,000B per person – this is how much our esteemed politicians allocate for themselves to celebrate their fantastic flood management (500 people attend the party according to another article). For some of our superrich politicians this might be a normal amount which they spent every night. But I wonder how the new red-shirt ministers, who call themselves prai, will be able to explain this to their poor followers.
If the government would implement the promised 300B minimum wage per day then two months work, without one day off, would still not be enough to earn the 20,000B per person which the politicians spent for themselves for a few hours partying.
Let’s look how Jatuporn, Nattawut and others will explain this to their followers – maybe they will allow some prai to eat the leftovers from the buffet.

Outrageous, disgusting waste of money that could have been spent actually helping people.

  • Discussion 18 : 09/02/2012 at 10:52 PM18

There are still poor people which were hit by the flooding waiting for a ridiculous sum of 5000 Baht. A party for 10 Million which caters only a selected few could compensate 2000 people is completely impertinent. So many individuals and organisations were raising money over weeks to give help the victims and to show their sympathy. Such acts of the government show just only the ignorance for the real needs and their sympathy to benefit themselves ...

This party indicates how arrogant and insensitive the Thaksin lead government is. It is like they are saying 'We did a good job and deserve it' completely ignoring their incompetence and mediocrity that cost too many lives.

Shame on you ! It is a hideous waste of money that will not go down well with poor people who lost everything.

'"It is not necessary for me to talk to United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship leaders or the red-shirts because they understand what the government is doing," Mr Yongyuth said.'

Why even mention them ? Try telling people who were wiped out by the flood and see if they understand such a disgusting waste of money celebrating mediocrity and incompetence.
