Floodways will affect residents

Authorities aim to create understanding among people who will be affected by planned water retention areas and floodways as part of long-term anti-flood measures, says Interior Minister Yongyuth Wichaidit.

The Strategic Committee for Water Resources Management (SCWRM) has recommended allocating 1.5 million rai of land in various provinces to serve as water retention areas and natural floodways, in a bid to deal with flood problems more effectively in the future.

The SCWRM was now surveying and selecting the areas, Mr Yongyuth said on Friday.

Khundj you clearly think or know you will not be effected a typical selfish comment. Why should anyone have to be flooded in this day and age. Incompetence by the authorities dams full at this time of year I do not see much remedial work in my area so clearly we will be sacrificed again to save Bangkok which is causing the problem for the rest of the country. Bangkok is in the wrong place acting like a plug in a bath .Yes people will object and so they should. But I suspect the people in the areas chosen will be those not so well off and easily bought off{bribed] by the might and prosperity of Bangkok.

1.5 million rais is 600 thousand acres or 2400 square kilometer.
That is more than enough to build a 10KM wide canal from NakonSawan to the gulf !

But instead of one major drain line we are going to build a whole lot of retention ponds ???
They'd better post a comprehensive map of where those 1.5 million rais they want to acquire are, who owns them, and get a public input before spending the money.

1,5 million rai is a lot of land....could cause a lot of mobs blocking roads when they find out they have to pack up and leave .... but it is for the common good of the Country so hopefully they will understand.
