The music world paid emotional tribute to legendary US singer and actress Whitney Houston, as stars gathered for the annual Grammy show less than 24 hours after her shock death at age 48.

Organizers hastily added a performance by singer Jennifer Hudson to the awards show, as part of a "respectful" tribute at the Grammys, while the veteran producer who discovered her said Houston would want the show to go on.

To be born into such a talented, rich and famous family as hers and simultaneously have such an incredible gift to sing and act, become successful (beyond imagination), then to give it ALL up for DRUGS (life, reputation, family, everything) is such a pity! If I had had an ounce of her privileges and talent, I would have never traded those opportunities I would have had for drugs. It's insane. To think of how many more songs and performances she could have had if her life hadn't been so messed up... It's a shame and a waste.

Sad loss to her family my condolences. This shows what can happen being a drug addict, Amy winehouse also, what a tragic loss of life. The dealers in drugs do not care about such, they care about the money they make only, not how many will die. This justifies the harsh penalties in Thailand for being a drug supplier and dealer. Death penalty for all dealers and suppliers.Tat means the ones who are in prison now, regardless of age as they will only do it again when they are free.

    Sad, very sad
I remember when I first saw her on TV and she was introduced as a (completely unknown) relative of Dionne Warwick. She was a very sweet and talented girl. Later she became a superstar and I still liked to see her and hear her music. When I saw the news about her death today – likely drug related – and I saw some recent pictures of her there was nothing left of the woman she was once.
I hope lots of teenagers will see these before and after pictures and see how destructive drugs are. All the money in the world could not save Whitney Houston.
    RIP
