This is just a travel warning thats all. They have always had a travel warning in the south of thailand.
Brits are used to this type of thing, well those of that remember when the ira was very active,
but we carried on as normal, just being more vigilant thats all.
As for Thailand being safer than the UK, Some how i think not,Just look at pattaya, chonburi province. There is far more crime than is reported here. This paper alone does not report the crimes which occur in bangkok Bangkok, unless its really big news.
So people will never know the extent of crime in Bangkok, many other places also.

bkk1, if you have lived in London on South side of the river, maybe have some chance for your comment. Fact is 25 times more chance of being killed on the roads in Thailand than UK. Outside the Gettos in some larger cities, it is major news for a murder in rest of UK. There are many murders/rape every day here, but its not big news. Far more than UK. I have worked, now retired in Thailand for 17 years.

Well, here's a knee jerk reaction from my home Country. Thailand is other end of the scale, deny, all a misunderstanding, can't lose face & tourists. Should be somewhere in between. Be careful, tighten security, admit there is fair chance of a problem, but don't deny.
