Minister accused in school donations

A well-known education activist on Monday lodged a petition with the Administrative Court against Education Minister Suchart Thada-Thamrongvech over the decision that allows state schools to accept donations in lieu of student admission.

Amnuai Sunthornchot, the chairman of the Values for Building Thailand Club, a civic group advocating education reform, asked the court to issue an injunction to prohibit all state schools from receiving donations in exchange for the enrolment of donors' children.

In his lawsuit, he said the policy is against ethical principles and violates Section 30 of the constitution which assures equality among Thai people and prohibits all acts of discrimination.

englishbob D2 - The Dem Party promised to shut down 14,000 schools to make education more 'efficient'. Is that what you would have voted for?

btw, no one reprimanded the US, it was closer to 4% GDP, and PTP didn't cause the flooding.

D1 If Suchart did as you suggest he would be legalizing corruption don't you think.

His idea about accepting tea money is ill considered and discriminatory. For example one important reason for standard school uniforms is to promote equality among the children.

What happens if two kids both pass the entrance exam and Somchais parents pay and Somyings cannot.

Maybe teachers should teach values and the Gov should spend tablet money on raising teachers wages.

D2.. Bob...your comments are always so insightful...and always so fair and balanced...they always praise good intentions regardless of who made them, and always scorn bad ones regardless of what party they are in...Right? Hope you are as honest in your answer as you are usually. :-D D D D

Money is more important than virtue and ability. Ask a broad cross section of Thai people what is most important to them. I guarantee money comes number over family, virtue, ability and morality.

Mr Suchart has insisted legalising the acceptance of school admission tea money will help solve the problem of corruption in the admissions process at popular schools.

He reasoned that the money will not line individual pockets, but be transparently spent on improving the schools' educational standards

Sure it will. LOL LOL LOL

pointoffew - This is the government you wanted. Amateurs who wish to legalise corruption. Who mishandled the floods so badly that 9% was wiped off the country's GDP. And who were so arrogant that they reprimanded America for warning them of a terrorist attack which then occurred in the capital city. Do you still feel like they are the right choice?

Thank you, Khun Amnuai, for your brave and intelligent action.

@ Suchart: I would like to believe that your intentions are really good. If they are, please use your influence in the government to make a start with legalising and regulating prostitution, gambling and the use of certain soft drugs, rather than legalising corruption.
