Suphan Buri new 'monkey cheeks'

Suphan Buri will retain floodwater on more than 400,000 rai of land in four districts, if needed to help manage future flooding, provincial deputy governor Supat Srisunthornpinit said on Friday.
The four districts are Muang, U Thong, Bang Pla Ma and Song Phi Nong, Mr Supat said. The areas allocated for this purpose were hit by flood water every year, he added.
The Central Plains province will allocate 50,783 rai of fields in four tambons of Muang district -- Koke Ko Tao, Don Tarn, Suan Tang and Sala Khao; 32,921 rai in three tambons of U Thong -- Don Makuar, Krajan and Yoong Talai; 189,453 rai in Bang Pla Ma and 128,980 rai in Song Phi Nong. These areas will be reserved as <i>kaem ling</i>, or monkey cheeks, water retention areas.
