Rally demands B300 wage nationwide

About one thousand members of the Labourers Network for a Fair Wage on Tuesday rallied in front of Government House calling for a 300 baht daily minimum wage across the country, reports said.

The workers said the cabinet meeting’s resolution on Nov 22, 2011, to raise daily minimum wage of workers in only seven provinces in April 1, 2012 was unfair. They demanded the government to review its wage hike policy.

They called on Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra to come out herself to receive their open letter at the Phitsanulok road rally site, otherwise, the rally would be prolonged.

Red shirt voters besieged Bangkok last year to get their way. These disgruntled voters should take a leaf out of their book.
It seems the only way to get a result in Thailand.

Re:D17 John...You are right and everybody made promises in the election and the 300 is just the middle of the pack....but I believe it would be better to fall back to a more planned and gradual implementation so as not to actually drive away jobs. Some people may be better off with 250 per day and a job, rather than a 300 per day promise and no job because their employer has gone out of business.

Every single political party in Thailand promised higher minimum wage during the last election. The Dems promised 275 baht and fixed wages per profession. BJT, their ally, promised 500 baht. If you're a socialist, it was a win-win situation. For capitalists, a lose-lose situation.

Unfair ? A friend in BKK cannot get people to work for less than 300/day. It was a PTP con trick that I hope will be revealed for what it was. Looks like that is happening already.

The whole government promise of minimum wages was a joke from the beginning. The only thing you gain if you dictate the businesses minimum wages is higher unemployment and higher prices.

The government promises everything under the sun to get elected, delivers nothing and wastes all their time divided up billion baht budgets amongst the powers to be. Where are the people in this scenario? Do you really, really think the government cares about all the little people or just themselves? In regards to blocking the road? This only inconveniences other workers. Block the government or someone that deserves it and stop blocking the innocent.

Bkk-farang D11: Nope didn't miss it. And the point is Thaksins promise was a lie like every other promise. The govt are not obliged to order employers to increase workers wages as this was only an election stunt to get votes.

If the private work force are dissatisfied with their current salaries they will have to strike directly at the employer.

Good luck with that one lol

@lazar #1: Did you miss the last election? PThaksin promised everybody all over Thailand a minimum wage of 300B per day. I don’t know how many people voted from them for this reason but I guess a lot of people did. So it’s easy to understand why people demand go get the salary increase from the government and not from their employees.
