Coalition to meet Tuesday on bill

A meeting of coalition parties in the government will be held on Tuesday to discuss the reconciliation bill proposed by Matubhum Party leader Sonthi Boonyaratgalin, government chief whip Udomdet Rattanasathian said on Sunday.

Mr Udomdet said the meeting was intended to look closely into the bill's reasoning and principles and sound out opinions of the coalition parties.

He admitted that the Pheu Thai Party, which commands the majority in the coalition, was split over the bill.  However, all party MPs are duty-bound to follow a resolution yet to be made by the party.

D7 Casuist - it could just as easily been claimed that the ASC was charged with investigation because they weren't buddies with Thaksin and thus not obligated to him in any manner nor susceptible to tempting boxes of donuts.

However his trials were done in a court, with his lawyers present and according to law. His charges were based on laws in effect when he was PM, they were not new post-coup laws. His conviction was based on the evidence presented.

The ONLY thing that the coup created was a committee that Thaksin couldn't buy off.

if one should be punished because of wrong doing, use the law and not a coup.period!

No Durian #4. The point is that "all investigations done by the ASC" were DIRECTED against "just one person." Not only that, but they were carried out by a body that was set up by the unelected usurping junta and which was deliberately composed almost entirely of people who were noted for their personal antipathy to Thaksin; indeed they could be described as Thaksin-haters - Kaewsan, Jaruvan, Banjerd among them. It was in effect simply a political lynch mob. That is why natural justice requires that all judicial decisions which resulted from its investigations need to be overturned. There is no reason, of course, why cases against Thaksin cannot be pursued by a properly constituted body subject only to due process.

I support Bloodless coup 2006 than everyday Dictatorship of Mr. Dubai.

"Prompong denied a report that Pheu Thaksin Party was split over the bill." For once this puppet is correct, the party is owned by the fugitive and all party members will follow his orders or receive the pink slip.

The removal of all investigations done by the ASC is intended to directly help just one person, and is the main feature of this bill. Don't ever be fooled into thinking this is not the most important part of the bill. This will eleminate all investigations of corruption against Thaksin, even those cases he still faces, and why he doesn't return to Thailand. Just try to remove it, and hear how much backlash comes from Thaksin. The other articles are not even close to the importance of this article dealing with the ASC, and its corruption investigations against Thaksin.

"all party MPs are duty-bound to follow a resolution yet to be made by the party" and therein lies one of the biggest problems facing democracy in Thailand ... MPs are not allowed to think for themselves, not allowed to vote for what is best for their constituency. Dictatorship at its finest.

Discussion 1 dickemery : Prompong Nopparit is an actor. Many expatriate Thaksin haters here need to learn more about thailand before they attack the then PM.
