Suu Kyi calls on exiles to stay united

Democracy icon Aung San Suu Kyi on Sunday urged Myanmar refugees in Norway to stay united, whatever their ethnic group, to jointly build a country they and their children can return to.

"Every time I meet Burmese people, I tell them to stay united, especially when I see them in other countries,'' she told a hall filled with exiles from Myanmar's many ethnic groups, speaking in Burmese.

As elsewhere on her Europe tour, the Nobel laureate was greeted with thunderous applause and cheers by the audience, many wearing the traditional dress of the Karen, Kachin, Chin, Mon and other ethnic groups.
