EC red cards Pheu Thai's Karun

The Election Commission has decided by a majority vote to disqualify Karun "Keng" Hosakul, a Pheu Thai MP for Bangkok's constituency 12, for defaming Democrat candidate Tankhun Jitt-itsara during last year's election campaign, EC secretary-general Puchong Nutrawong said on Wednesday.

The EC resolved to revoke Mr Karun's voting right and ordered a by-election in Don Muang, Mr Puchong said.

"He alleged that the Democrats were paying people 300 baht each if they turned up to listen to their speeches during the campaign."
It is ok to accuse PTP of buying votes and protesters. But if PTP accuses anyone, it's defamation. Double standards? Fact: The heads of the EC were directly appointed by the coup government.

The Peua Thai should be happy to wash their hands of this guy with his arrogant attitude and sleazy history. They now have an opportunity to run a candidate with a little more class.

So under the EC it is fine to fire live ammo at people, but slander is a no no. Amazing thailand.

Of course Mr karun was at fault, but you'd think that the EC had rather bigger fish to fry on both sides rather than castigating this rather trivial politician.

I can't find any evidence that the 'Beach Boy' album by Heat magazine - in which Mr. Thankhun appeared in swimwear - was pornographic, and though it was a gay magazine, that doesn't necessarily make Mr. Thankhun gay. Guy's gotta eat, right?

Whether the accusations are true or not, it's probably for the best that Mr. Karun is kicked out of parliament. There is a lot of evidence that he is not only a corrupt tax evader, but also a very violent individual.

Mr Karun has been ordered to cease all the functions of an MP. Could someone order Yingluck to start carrying out the functions of PM?

    Good news at least!

I seriously doubt that the voters of Don Muang were swayed by these allegations and so the Constitutional Court has no business overturning their decision.

If Tankhun wants retribution he should sue Karun for slander in a regular court and not involve the judiciary in the electoral process.

Excellent to finally have bad things happen to bad people. I do not care whether he is red or yellow or any color.....according to this newspaper, this guy Karun allegedly beat his wife in public at the airport and attempted to kickbox other MPs with whom he disagreed. These are just a few of his press clippings. This guy is a bad apple. Good to see him get put down.

Is it still libel if the charges are true?
