Poll: Nasa use of U-tapao gets support

Most, or 70.7 per cent, of Thais say they would agree should any country offer to help conduct atmospheric studies over Thailand, according to the results of an Abac Poll published on Sunday.

Also, 63.5 per cent of the respondents said they agreed to allowing Nasa to use U-tapao naval airbase as the centre for such studies while 36.5 per cent disagreed.

The opinion survey was conducted recently on 1,284 people in 17 provinces.

    >> it ought to be put to a referendum
Yes, but it has been put to a referendum. There was one last year, and there will be another in three to four years unless there is yet another coup by generals or judges. Every referendum has had the same result, the current government and its supporters get about 60 per cent.

59.6 per cent of the survey respondents are sensible persons having a right track of thinking.

I think the foreign DP supporters here can not grasp that the majority of Thais have chosen to support the PT and it does in fact have the mandate of the most voters to carry out the campaign promises. That includes changing the charter to be more democratic, and reinstating the human rights and freedoms that were striped out of the 97 charter. It also includes attempting a reconciliation bill and the majority of Thais feel TS was unfairly singled out. The majority see that all government and government enterprise is filled with corruption and that government has always been corrupt in every political party there whole life time.

The polls in Thailand are at the level of coffee grounds future tellers.

Yet another poll that shows that the majority of people support the government, just like the May Suan Dusit poll that showed the PM and government getting it's highest approval rating since it was elected.

The support for bringing back Thaksin seems to be 59%, that's nearly enough even for those that demand a "super majority" for any moves to be ratified.

It amazes me that people posting here talk about voters deserting the government because of it's poor performance, where is their evidence?

As usual when it comes to polls, and especially polls where a specific result is wanted, the question is more interesting then the answer.

Clearly, many will laminate the number 59.6 % onto their scrap books, but for that number to have teeth it ought to be put to a referendum : do you agree with the current proposal to overturn all of Thaksin's convictions ? If such a referendum were put forth, it would not be surprising that a very strong 18 % would unreservedly agree. If Pheu Thai insists the public would agree, they should put the clear question to a referendum, especially if they are convinced of the result.
