US court upholds Obamacare

WASHINGTON : The US Supreme Court decided Thursday to uphold the signature health care law of President Barack Obama.

The controversial "individual mandate" payment system was struck down by a 5-4 decision - but then was legalised as a new tax.Chief Justice John Roberts, supposedly a conservative justice, joined the liberal wing of the court in the vote to save "Obamacare" as the first national US health care law has been dubbed.Twenty six states sued over the law, arguing that the individual mandate, which requires people to buy health insurance or face a fine...

Khun Hawaiiman #10, the Republican minority in the House and Senate were of no consequences, at the time when Obama and the Democrats in both Houses passed Obamacare, so why do you want to blame them? If they caused the mess Obamacare is in as you claimed, why do you think the Republicans were overwhelmingly put back in majority in the House? Obamacare is doomed because it is neither work nor sustainable, when the country is facing grave economic crisis. Remember that Obamacare was sold as an affordable healthcare for all, but in reality, it is anything but that. And may I ask whether those who are the shareholders, and employed by corporations are people?

As I said, the "conservative" (not really) Republicans caused this bill to be the mess it is. In our sound bite world, no one will take the time to unravel the congressional record and see the truth. In a time of rising health care costs caused by the HMO and drug lobby, the idea of electing Romney, a shill for those that caused the problem, seems a little backwards, but that's democracy. I'm praying Obama is re-elected. The real tyranny is that of the big money interests who control our government with lobbyists. Corporations are not people.

Khun Hawaiiman #7, so far, Obamacare has been a blessing in disguise for conservative Republicans. Right after its passing, it wiped out the Democrat's massive majority in the lower House, and decimated its majority in the upper House to be just 5 votes. So, why not? The Chief Justice Roberts just want to keep it going as long as possible, siding with the 4 liberal justices, hoping it will eventually wipe out Obama this November too. If this is not a cruel & unusual punishment, I don't know what is? His logic is if the people vote for tyranny, they will get tyranny, but will they want it this November?

We've had medicare in Canada for 5 decades. The hospitals are plugged and a third of our taxes go to supporting it. Because it is "free" there are no checks, and the people abuse and over use the system. The doctors automatically prescribe every test under the sun, regardless of cost. Waste and inefficiency abound and, as in all government endeavours, the bureaucracy is massive redundant and slow. America has crippled herself with debt, public and private. They don't need to add this expense.

D-1 half of those who didn't like it (like myself) didn't think it went far enough. Full on, single payer "socialized medicine" is what America needs.
D-2 An interesting spin. Blame the President for a messy bill created by the obstructionism of congressional Republicans. To then say that the President was hoping the bill would be struck down is really spinning the spin. Karl Rove couldn't have done better.
When you hear neo-cons complain about this bill, you never hear comments that it isn't effective in helping those in need, you only hear them say "my costs are going up!". The politics of me, me, me. High medical costs in America are largely the result of the greed of corporate health care providers. The brilliance of a single payer system is to take control of health care away from these parasites.

Before Obama even came to office my health insurance went up from $278 a month to $795 a month, without a single claim, in just 3 years. That is what Bush did to my health insurance cost.

Seeing how Romney is in the pocket of the pharmacutical drug companies, I hate to think how much higher my insurance will go if, God forbid, he gets in office. I also hate that he will find some way to meet his Mormon obligations. He is a practicing Mormon, and as such the church comes first, not the people he would have been elected to represent, and heaven help you if you are not Mormon.

Thomas Jefferson said. "You seem... to consider the judges as the ultimate arbiters of all constitutional questions: a very dangerous doctrine indeed, and one which would place us under the despotism of an oligarchy. Our judges are as honest as other men, and not more so. They have, with others, the same passions for party, for power, and the privilege of their corps. Their maxim is "boni judicis est ampliare juris-dictionem," [It is the part of a good judge to enlarge his jurisdiction] and their power the more dangerous as they are in office for life, and not responsible, as the other functionaries are, to the elective control. The constitution has erected no such single tribunal, knowing that to whatever hands confided, with the corruptions or time and party, its members would become despots."

Spice man, Mine went up 25% in the past 2 years and I have never in my life filed a claim. So in effect the 20% that did not buy insurance are now entitled to free insurance and the cost to provide that is now forced upon the 80% who did insure themselves.

Well, that made it easy to decide who to vote for: Nobama. Emphasis on 'no'.

Obama was hoping the High Court would strike down Obamacare as "unconstitutional," so he could motivate and mobilize his liberal base to pull him through the finish line this November. However, thanks to the ruling, it is the conservatives and independents who are being motivated and mobilizing to pull Romney through the finish line. My monthly healthcare premium has rose up from just below $300.00 to more than $600 now, because of Obamacare. Is it "affordable healthcare for all?" Hell, No, but rather "screw you all?"
