Two Britons arrested for ATM heists

Two British men arrested for trying to steal ATMs from three banks in Chon Buri province have admitted they tried to copy a robbery depicted in the Hollywood action movie "Fast Five", chief of Chon Buri police said on Friday.

The suspects, Alexander Milbourn, 25, and Shaun Edward Tracy, 34, were nabbed on Thursday after they and another unidentified Briton, who is still at large, allegedly attempted to yank ATMs out of the wall at three bank branches in Si Racha district, using nylon ropes attached to a car, Pol Maj Gen Jamnong Rattanakul told a news conference

In all three attempted robberies, the men were able to tear the ATMs out of the building wall in the early hours of the morning, but failed to open them and take any money out before fleeing because the banks’ alarms were activated and local residents had been woken up.

We will see more off this. Now the know how to get the safes/ATM from the wall. Now, somebody just have to figure out how to get these up on a pick-pup before BiB:s arrive. The weight is around 700 Kilo.

So, a simple ramp or lever + a few strong hands should do the job.

have to commend the Thai Police for a job well done...it happens in America all to often you'll see them on security camera smash into the front of a store with a stolen Suburban knocking the whole wall down tie onto to the ATM and drag it off at 4:00AM sparks flying everywhere and the US COPS never catch um ...its crazy

Amateurs, all ATMS have alarms, and have warning sent to the headquarters immediately when tampered with, either movement wise or power cut off. Local authorities or security companies are notified immediately to check on the scene.

Even ATM technicians who maintain the machines have a time limit of around 1 to 1.5 hours, if they run over, a back up team will be sent to investigate. If its nothing illegal, technician salaries will be deducted for not working fast enough.

Reference #2 - perhaps you should look around before making such comments.
I saw re-enactment photos on expat websites yesterday.

So the younger guy showed up in the country when he was 15?

Mr Milbourne and Mr Tracy will not need jobs for the next 20 years either. If they get what they deserve they will get 20 years of free housing and food at the expense of the government. Unfortunately the accommodations may not be quite as good as they are normally accustomed to, but...if you can't do the time then don't do the crime.

It is interesting that they were able to pull the ATMs out of the walls. I guess if they would have been better organized they could have lifted the whole ATM machines on trucks within minutes. Maybe next time…

How come there are no photographs of the accused re-enacting their "crimes" , as is usual with Thai suspects?
