Kittiratt delays LPG price float

The government will consider the inflation rate before deciding whether to raise the price of liquified petroleum gas (LPG) for the household and transport sectors on Aug 16 as planned, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Kittiratt Na-Ranong said on Monday.

"If the inflation rate is high we'll have to put the plan to increase the LPG price on hold," Mr Kittiratt said. "But if the inflation rate stays within the target range the price will be raised gradually so it won't greatly affect the public."

He said the government will definitely float the LPG price so that it reflects the actual market price before the Asean Economic Community (AEC) arrives in 2015.
