Heavy fighting breaks out in Damascus, with the army firing mortar rounds into neighbourhoods where fighters of the rebel Free Syrian Army are entrenched, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says, in the fiercest clashes since the revolt against President Bashar al-Assad's regime started.
