Defence minister insists GT200 works

The GT200 bomb detectors, which are used in the far South, do work and they have detected explosives many times, Defence Minister Sukumpol Suwanatat said on Thursday.

ACM Sukumpol said this after Department of Special Investigation (DSI) director general Tarit Pengdit said on Wednesday that the GT200 and Alpha 6 bomb detectors were procured at excessive prices and the devices might not work.

He said the Defence Ministry will not intervene in the DSI's request for the 13 government agencies that bought the devices to look into the procurements.

englishbob 16 - FYI, most of these bomb detectors were purchased during AV's administration, their use were not halted during AV's administration, and most of AV's staff defended it's use. AV's administration also doubled the military budget. But yes, the *military* is still insisting on using it during PTP's administration.

"Mr Tarit said the his department found that officials responsible for the procurement did not set median bid prices". Ah, now we all understand, of course, this is not included in their job description

Trying to throw mud on Abhisit isn't an effective red herring for the embarrassment of this.

I think this whole thing is about to blow up in their faces...

Sir can I provide you with a device called GT300 Beta. It will me made of steel and will also emit some
light to make it look more real. It will also use battery to emit some sort of radio waves. I am sure that it
will be more convincing than the GT200 and at the price of 100,000 Baht, its a bargain! We can also customize the items to your need and provide you with 100 cards which I bought at Lotus at no cost.

Open up the handset and look inside, NOTHING....scan the useless RFID with x-ray's and you'll see it's just a blank piece of plastic, NOTHING.....that antenna is just a spare part from a radio, NOTHING....there's no such thing as power from contact with your body, and it's most certainly not possible for it to supply constant and continuous power to a bomb detector, NOTHING.

Stop making these ridiculous public claims that only amplify the sheer ignorance and utter stupidity of the person or persons that was conned into purchasing these outright fakes.

There are plenty of good working devices on the market.....using scientific technology that's been verified and certified by various multi-national agencies. Throw the fake away and buy new, your troops and citizens deserve it.

You know the old saying....if it sounds to good to be true, then it probably isn't.

    Case closed.

John - I just LOVE the way the UDD/PT fans try to make this into a Dem issue.
Fact - the original contract was signed during Shinawatra's premiership.
Fact - the current defence minister was the first to order them.
If the military are already using equipment, why would the government go back and re-examine the purchase order?
After seeing the test results, Abhisit was the only Prime Minister to refuse to buy any more.
Face it - Thai Rak Thai started it. Dems condemned it. Peua Thai are backing it again.

Sir, I am dying to get convinced and therefore dare you to prove the effectiveness, using the device yourself, putting your own life at risk - or not at risk, as you claim. No more hollow words, so please, convince me, now. Else you risk never to be trusted again.

he can´t say any other thing because: .....air force was the 1st to procure GT200 detectors when he was the air force chief-of-staff."

but sure - flip a coin will work better than gt200 :(

These devices make great 'corruption detectors'. Any high ranking official that claims they work should be investigated by the NACC.

englishbob 10 - Most were purchased during the AV administration, and just a few days ago Gen P (of the AV political camp) publicly came out to support the purchases. To me, this is a scam for military staff to fill their pockets.
