Abhisit draft case to be expedited

The Office of the Ombudsman will expedite the investigation into a petition filed by a Pheu Thai Party member for it to look into the allegation that former prime minister Abhisit Vejjajiva had evaded military conscription, office spokesman Rakkecha Chaechai said.

Mr Rakkecha said the petition was filed by Kamol Bandaiphet, a Pheu Thai Party member, on the grounds that the Defence Ministry had failed to examine the allegation that Mr Abhisit had used fake documents to apply for the teaching job at the Chulachomklao Royal Military Academy and had evaded conscription.

The Office of the Ombudsman, on receiving the petition on May 22, immediately started to examine related documents.  It had sent a letter to Defence Minister Sukumpol Suwanatat, asking for an explanation.

Isn't it remarkable that Jatuporn needs to go back 20 years in Abbhisits history to find something he can go to court with? I wonder how many court worth cases one would find if he digged up Jatuporn's hitory back 20 years.

Perhaps we can expedite the rest of Thaksin's cases too, since most of them date to before the PAD's acts, no more ridiculous postponing of the cases.

    Disc8 - I agree.
Let's see. PAD blocked some roads. And they trespassed at Government House.
I'm not sure you can prosecute people for going to the airport as it's a public place.
I think a fine and a warning should suffice.

And then we can get onto the barricading of the city centre, war weapons, murder, looting and arson of UDD. I bet you'd LOVE to see those cases going to trial. A good portion of the cabinet should be behind bars. (A bit more serious than allegedly dodging the draft, right?)

browser (D5) I don't see the relevance of your comment. The fundamental issue here is Abhisit's integrity. He has asserted that he followed correct procedures relating to the draft, so he, and his supporters, should welcome this move by the Ombudsman because a thorough investigation will, presumably, exonerate him.

  • Discussion 6 : 19 Jul 2012 at 19.446

Back when Abhisit was PM, Jatuporn accused him of evading the draft. In response, Abhisit filed a court case, accusing Jatuporn of lying. Someone is surely lying, but who? Let the Ombudsman examine the evidence, and decide how to proceed.

Pheu Thai - in pursuing things of this nature - demonstrates yet again its focus on intimidating all voices of opposition and dissent.

Yes get the case expedited, and then ask all other MP's to disclose whether they served the country and if not investigate all of them , there are many that would like not to do their time in the armed forces and I wonder if some managed to pay them self from doing their time.

Maybe you could expedite Thaksin's cases too or is that playing for the wrong team .
