Annan quits Syria mission

Kofi Annan has resigned as UN-Arab League envoy for Syria, complaining that his April peace plan had not received the support it deserved from major powers.

Syrians look at a destroyed army tank parked outside the Azaz mosque, north of Aleppo, on Thursday.

As the Syrian army deployed fighter jets against rebels armed with tanks around the commercial capital Aleppo, the former UN chief regretted an "increasing militarisation" of the 17-month conflict.

    a real shame this former un leader was brought back to help and negotiate a peaceful solution to this terrible actrocites thats happening to syrian people, the arab league asked him, but the unwillingness by the arab league to get their hands dirty have disappointed annan, and shows a lack of willingness by the arab league, for him to quit must have be painful
