Thai hostages off Nigerian coast 'safe'

All Thai crewmen on board a vessel hijacked by pirates off the Nigerian coast are safe, Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul said on Wednesday.

Pirates in the Gulf of Guinea last week took over a support services vessel belonging to Sea Trucks Group (STG), a Dutch-based oil and gas company. They reportedly killed two local employees and held four foreign employees as hostages.

    Kidnapping for ransom is almost routine in the oil regions of Nigeria so probably the captives are "safe" and will be released later.

    Most governments are allowing merchant ship to have armed guards.

    And by the way.. the officer on the pic is LOADING his machine gun (a FN MAG/MAG58)... not assembling.
