I know parliamentary immunity exists in many (all?) countries and for a good reason. But this immunity and can should be removed (and fast) in extreme cases like this. Maybe some readers know how this is handled in other countries. I am sure they have the immunity but I am not sure if there are exceptions and how fast this is removed in developed democracies.

I cannot add anything to all the amazed and negative comments so far, except this bit of information.
In Britain, on whose parliamentary system Thailand's is supposedly based, immunity from prosecution for MPs relates solely to things they say in parliamentary sessions. This effectively means that their only immunity is from prosecution under British libel laws whilst speaking in the House.

    Compare and contrast Thailand.

Parliamentary immunity will never change because the Mp's and Officals that are protected by this law are the ones that would be voting.

"Police have yet to arrest the senator as he is protected by parliamentary privilege." Unbelievable, indeed.

Couldn't we the people collect 100,000 signatures to petition the scrapping of parliamentary immunity among its 'privileged' members - MPs and senators alike? If anything, this is one of the most nonsensical and ridiculous clauses under Thai law.

Its about time the nonsensical parliamentary privilege covering all types of crimes is abolished. What possible rights do these criminals have over everyone else?

I was always taught that you NEVER point a gun at a person unless you intend on shooting them or are prepared to shoot them. Apparently this 'unusually armed' distinguished senator doesn't know anything about gun safety.

My condolences to the family and friends of Chanakarn Detkard.

Again a new pistol tragedy !!!
In Thailand so many people owns guns, why ? Is Thailand a dangerous country ? Is Thailand miss the era of Jesse James and others thugs ?
I heard it's not easy to shoot with gun, you have to press hardly your finger, how a gun can be discharged accidentally so easily...
Did this senator buy legally his gun ?

If people has not ennemy, he doesn't need gun.

it is no surprise that anyone has a weapon here, whatever type.
i believe his story is probably true as he could easily off somebody in a more discrete manner as the modus operandi.
but, yes, an act of idiocy/senselessness all the same.

Only in Thailand. Why would any one, senator or not, have a machine gun and why take it to a restaurant. Can't they at least arrest him for being unusually stupid (as in unusually rich)if not for murder?
