Security forces in the far South have been put on high alert on intelligence reports indicating militants plan more violence before Ramadan ends, with Aug 16-19 the danger period, Deputy Prime Minister Yutthasak Sasiprapa said on Thursday.

Gen Yutthasak said Muslim militants had been instilled with the belief that indulgin in violence during the holy month of Ramadan would count as a good deed.

'Secret Pacts' usually involve the authorities giving the terrorists something to keep quiet (ie a bribe).

Once they have got what they want, they start right up again and demand something more.

North Korea have been getting away with this for a long time now. All it buys is a little time but it doesn't solve any problems. It just gives the terrorists funds and some space to prepare their next step.

I thought the south had been on high alert since 2004. But every time something happens there - daily - authorities claim to "step up security". Nonsense, mere propaganda.

To have to tell them to be alert suggests to me they must think things were fine down there up until now.Could it be because there bomb detectors have not detected anything?
